Fibrous Sugilite Floater Nugget, N'Chwaning II Mine, South Africa This 3.4cm floater is a very fine and aesthetic three dimensional specimen from the most recent discovery of crystallized sugilite made in late 2013. Crystallized sugilite is super rare and usually is present in small amounts on large pieces of matrix quite unlike this new find. Here the sugilite far outweighs the small bits of gossan matrix!! The sugilite appears as a flowing botryoidal like mass of fibrous crystals that are so tightly intertwined that it is completely stable and can be easily handled without fear of shedding any fibers. The piece is rough to the touch due to the very crystalline form and under a microscope it is a wonderland that will keep you fixated for hours on end. There is a certain amount of color change present depending on your light source, ranging from a deep magenta to a dark purple in ordinary light conditions. Damage free.
