Description: tourmaline var. rubellite from Brazil. This specimen consists of a large, robust and heavy crystal of deep magenta-red rubellite tourmaline with a small area of very pale greenish near the base. The crystal is completely terminated and hosts several smaller crystals perched on top. These smaller crystals have complexly etched terminations with a thin, dark bluish "skin". The crystal has glassy luster and exhibits translucent to gemmy clarity. The crystal exhibits some edge wear and is believed to be quite old.
